Is dancing like a Bicycle?

This small article in the first place must be read by those who are just taking their first steps in dancing, as well as those who have been engaged for some time, but has not yet received the results that he would like. Those who have enough level “two steps to the left, two steps to the right”, and those who decided to devote his life or most of it to dance and ready to work hard in their field, can relax and flipping on. This information will be either useless or familiar as the alphabet. The rest – and you, of course, the majority – are invited to read.

So, what kind of stumbling blocks can be expected in a generally pleasant and joyful way of learning to dance?

Stone № 1 “Why am I dancing for two years, and still has not reached the level of SEO Fernandez (Janet Fuentes)?”- indignant “dancer”, attending classes on the strength of once a week, or even a couple of times a month, in the mood. Stone № 2 “plateau Effect”. At this stage, 90% of dance students break down.The plateau effect is present in the process of learning absolutely ANY skill. This is when you think that the ceiling of possibilities has been reached, and there are no visible results of your efforts and it seems that there will be no more. Ironically, to overcome this stone is easiest if you understand what’s going on. What happens is that at some point the body and brain get tired of receiving new information and need some time to automate the skill. If you know that this stage is temporary, and it is sure to come a breakthrough (of course, if you do not reduce the pace), then you can survive it quite easily.

At this stage, dancing offers many options for a small “shake”, which will quickly overcome this period. For example, you can try parallel to do another dance, you can try yourself as a partner, if you are a girl, and Vice versa. You can even try yourself as a teacher. But the best effect is to prepare for a responsible performance.

Stone № 3 Many probably used in my life this comparison “It’s like riding a bike, once learned, you will not forget.” And if we talk about dancing, there is some truth in this. But only a fraction.

Not so long ago, one of our students with a sigh admitted: “Salsa does not forgive passes.” And ignored-it was just 2-3 months. No, of course, neither for a couple of months, nor for six months, nor even for a year you will not forget any basic steps (and if you forget, then quickly remember), nor skills of conducting and following, nor your crown ligaments and elements, but the ability to create from all this dance in its special unique style will leave, and you will need to start all over again.

Dance is like a long and pleasant journey, you can endlessly discover its beauty and never tire of wondering how rich and diverse it can be. And then no stone in the way can make you turn back. After all, no one interrupts the journey at the most interesting place.
